Oh man, how embarrassing: We told you the wrong day on our very own event!

Battle of the Badlands Arm Wrestling Championship is actually on Saturday, Oct. 27, not that wrong date we told you on our picks page this week. Weigh-ins start at The Old Stone at 4:30 p.m. with competition beginning at 6 p.m.

Multiple weight classes for men and women mean you could be a contender!

So, gather your buddies and get down there for the kind of thing that just doesn’t happen around here often enough—this…

Best moment of our urban cowboy party at Maverick's Friday night?

Go Howe!

This most excellent moment was followed closely by great sets from Harley Bourbon and Boxcar Stringband.

All y'all that came- you know it was good. Everyone else, we'll see you next time.

Calling all deadheads!

Mickey Hart, former drummer for the Grateful Dead, is playing at the Tower on May 7 and we have an extra copy of his new CD, Mysterium Tremendum to give away.

Hart's spacey/world-beat jams are easy on the ears and at least one of us here on the Source's editorial staff is psyched for the upcoming show.

So, put down the bong long enough to read how to win a copy of his new album that is sitting on my desk this very minute.

Being Dead fans, we have a favorite Dead-era. To win the CD you have to tell us what were the best years to see the Dead/when were they making the best music.

Attempting to catalog the events of 2012 thus far proves to be somewhat of a challenge...I'm reminded that my occasional memory loss (of the sort commonly reserved for those who receive senior discounts at Wal-Mart) Is my passport to a state of ignorant bliss...Thanks genetics! - Best year yet I think?
Several minutes later, after reviewing the teetering stack of tick tacs equating my value as a human according to the 8a.nu, I'm fairly certain my mind was left somewhere in the Mojave desert. It's possible - I left my heart there two years ago and have failed to retrieve it since.

Enter - Trad Climbing

Last summer, I procured a tendon injury that ultimately resulted in an unforgettable off-season powdered with substance abuse and questionable life decisions. Since then, even the slightest ache or pain will send me hunting for free range grapefruits and top shelf vodka with a side of ice baths - remove - repeat - remove - repeat.

It all makes sense now...

This all led to a relatively rash decision as of late that resulted in my learning to trad climb when hard crimping wasn't an option (thanks Greg!). Within two weeks, I managed to send my first three trad lines - Moondance 5.9, Wartley's Revenge 5.11a, and Sunshine Dihedral 5.12a. When granted 5 days off work, clearly a trip to Zion was the obvious choice for this sport climber who doesn't own - let alone know how to use - a daisy chain.

We just love to give stuff away these days. This time, we've got two tickets for the Hot Buttered Rum and Cornmeal show on March 13 at the Century Center (sponsored by GoodLife Brewing, so get your pre-show pints there, ya hear?).

Don't let all the food/beverage names fool you. This ain't no cooking class. This is good ole fashioned hoedown, with plenty of pickin' and grinnin' and ass shakin.'

Hot Buttered Rum, hailing from the Bay-Area, is well known for its “high altitude bluegrass” sound and has shared a stage with such jam-spreading professionals as Phil Lesh and Bela Fleck. Chicago’s Cornmeal is a nutritious and fat-free bluegrass band that should leave you full and satisfied.

Tickets for this awesome shared-bill show are $15, so this giveaway is no joke, man.

As we mentioned in this week's paper, there are some great live shows happening around town for New Year's Eve. One of those shows is Larry and His Flask's show at the Old Stone Church, featuring a seriously cool slate of opening acts.

The show is selling fast, but Rise Up Presents is giving away ticket on their Facebook page. All you have to do is go to their page and leave a comment with your favorite song of 2011 on the Rise Up Facebook page and you'll be entered to win.

Winners will be announced on Friday by Rise Up.

Do you like metal? And do you like metal complete with insanely technical guitar work and angry, guttural vocals from some true masters of this medium? How about seeing this sort of music for free?

Well, then if you know what's good for you, you'll enter to win tickets to Saturday night's High on Fire show at the Domino Room.

All you have to do is head over to our Facebook page, like us, and then leave a comment on the post about this giveaway about, well, anything, and we'll put you in the running.

Winners will be notified via direct Facebook message tomorrow at noon.

Tomorrow night, reggae/hip-hop innovator Collie Buddz is set to light up the Domino Room, and wouldn't ya know it, we have some free tickets to give away.

Roll up the cuffs on your overalls 'cause the rootsy Colorado quartet Head for the Hills is coming to Silver Moon on Thursday. Why pay $15 for the show if you can win a pair from us for zero dollars?

Opening for the string band is Lake Tahoe roots-rock band Dead Winter Carpenters. Want to see them both? Alls you have to do is cyber-stroll on over to our facebook page, "like" us and leave a comment — you'll be automatically entered to win. We'll contact the lucky winners via facebook by 5pm on Wednesday. Casual.

To celebrate Halloween, Brooklyn's supercharged Afro-beat rockers, Rubblebucket, will be taking the stage at the Century Center and getting a little help from the local instrumental heroes of Empty Space Orchestra.

The show starts at 8pm and it's gonna be nuts, y'all. Or at least that's my prediction, after having seen Rubblebucket get crazy at this year's Cinco de Mayo street festival.

And! We are giving away tickets to the show!

All you have to do is head over to our Facebook page, "like" the hell out of us and then leave a comment in the post about the contest. Easy.
