Calling all deadheads!

Mickey Hart, former drummer for the Grateful Dead, is playing at the Tower on May 7 and we have an extra copy of his new CD, Mysterium Tremendum to give away.

Hart's spacey/world-beat jams are easy on the ears and at least one of us here on the Source's editorial staff is psyched for the upcoming show.

So, put down the bong long enough to read how to win a copy of his new album that is sitting on my desk this very minute.

Being Dead fans, we have a favorite Dead-era. To win the CD you have to tell us what were the best years to see the Dead/when were they making the best music.

Last night’s triple bill at The Horned Hand rocked the pants off the few folks who showed up. New York band The Dig was especially impressive, check the video below of "Already Forgot Everything You Said."

If you’re upset you missed all the fun, check out one of many shows happening in Bend tonight:

  • All you All is having an EP release party featuring the soulful Jacuzzi and the dance worthy Adventure Galley 7pm, PoetHouse.
  • Sentimental indie band The Thoughts will be sapping it up at The Horned Hand around 8pm.
  • Loop pedal wizard Tony Smiley will be playing a late night set at The Astro Lounge, 10pm.
  • And of course, Yonder Mountain String Band will be rocking their yearly bluegrass Bend jam-fest. Midtown, 8pm.

It's finally here! The 11th edition of the famous Sasquatch Music Festival has arrived! In my opinion the lineup is a damn good one... FINALLY! We have a lineup to look forward to for the 2012 Coachella Music Festival in Indio California. It's the first of the big Western music festivals and this year, will spread itself out over two weekends with identical lineups. The first will go down April 13th-15th and the second will follow the 20th-22nd with tickets going on sale this Friday. It's a pretty good looking lineup and I'll be there to cover all of it for my site 83Music as well as offer up some blog posts for BENT. You can also follow the Coachella news leading up to the festival with my upcoming, "Who's Going To Coachella?" series. In the meantime, get started by checking out the announcement poster below.

I just got off the phone with Jimmy Carter (pictured at right), one of the founding members of the The Blind Boys of Alabama. What a great guy. Being a southerner myself, I felt like I was talking to kinfolk—time and again the cadence of his speech, his excited declarations, chuckles, and general good nature reminded me of my grandpappy.

The Blind Boys are coming to town on Dec. 22 to play The Tower Theatre, a holiday show that's already sold out. Don't let that stop you from trying to get/find/scrounge up some tickets. Or listen to the music. If you're unfamiliar, the Blind Boys are a traditional gospel band that's been around since 1939 and have played with everyone from Ben Harper, to Willie Nelson, to Lou Reed.

The seven-man band is touring in support of their latest album, Take the High Road, a country-styled album. When I asked Mr. Carter, a lifelong fan of tradition country music, why'd it taken so long to put out a country album, he just laughed.

“I don’t know. I have been lobbying to do it for a long time," he said.

Mr. Carter went on to talk about how great it was to finally record and album in Nashville while working with rising country star, Jamey Johnson ("He's a good boy. An Alabama boy," Carter said).

Players Bar and Grill has new owners and they’ve spruced up the place while keeping the general dive-bar appeal. Josh Maquet, owner of the Astro Lounge, is one of the new owners, so we have good reason to expect some righteous shit from the place. Aside from food, pool and cheap, stiff drinks the new Players is kicking things off with an appearance by Jerry Joseph and Friends on Dec. 1 at 9pm ($10).

If you’re not familiar with Jerry Joseph, check out the video below of him and Widespread Panic. He wrote the song “Climb to Safety” (one of many he wrote for Panic).

The revamped venue also promises to have high quality production sounds and lighting, which should help in the big-name musician recruitment process. Anyone been there yet?

The Northwest's premiere multi-day music festival, Sasquatch!, has announced that it will release a limited amount of  four-day festival passes this Friday. The 11th annual Sasquatch! music festival will take place Memorial Day weekend, May 25- 28. In the past, tickets for the popular event have sold out early and are expected to do so again this year for the popular festival that takes place along the Columbia River Gorge outside Quincy, Wash. Four-day festival passes will be available for purchase starting Friday, November 25 at 10:00 am (PSA) through the Sasquatch website. Though the line-up for Sasquatch! won’t be announce until sometime in February, you’re sure to see some of the top headlining artists and new up and comers. With the past lineups that include bands like The Black Keys, Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons, and Coldplay, we expect this year’s roster to keep up with the Sasquatch! reputation and keep the local and national crowds coming back.

Like they did last January, local rock and roll geniuses Empty Space Orchestra will be taking over the Silver Moon Brewing Co. every Saturday night for an entire month.

This time, it's for the month of December, taking place on 12/3, 12/10, 12/17 and (after a week off) a New Year's blowout on 12/31.

And again like last year, the band is welcoming some of their favorite regional acts to open up each of the dates. Here's the opening lineup.

12/3 - VTRN
12/10 - Water & Bodies
http://waterandbodies.com/

12/17 - White Orange
12/31 - YOUR BIRTHDAY and OH SUGOI

The shows are $7 each, or you can head over to BendTicket.com and buy a pass to all four shows for a mere $13. If you're not a rocket surgeon, we'll help you out and let you know that's a good deal. Those tickets go on sale soon.
