These solar panels are going in RIGHT NOW at Worthy Brewing, eastside Bend's newest brewery.

According to brewmaster Chad Kennedy, the photovoltaic system will provide about 20 percent of Worthy's water-heating needs—which is a lot. Heating water is a necessary part of the brewing process. Duh!

Kennedy said he's psyched to finish closing up the building, which should happen soon as the cooler and boiler are already in and the windows are being installed this week. But the real excitement for Worthy's head brewer will come in mid-November. That' when the brewing equipment is scheduled for arrival.

Then Kennedy, the former Laurelwood Brewing Co. brewmaster, can start making beer. Kennedy said he still expects the facility to be finished by the years end, which should translate to a January or February grand opening.

If you haven't been paying attention, music venues have come under increased pressure after a new noise ordinance was passed this summer.

HOWEVER, at the last city council meeting on Oct. 19, councilors agreed to revisit the ordinance after receiving negative feedback from artists.

Tonight, Bend Residents for a Sensible Noise Ordinance are meeting at 6pm at the Horned Hand to brainstorm and discuss what should/shouldn't be included in a revised sound ordinance, which, as it is currently worded, requires a permit for "noise" between  10pm and 7am. The next city council meeting is Wed., Oct 3.

Tonight's meeting will also be the first gathering of the newly-formed Central Oregon Music and Arts Coalition.

All are welcome.

Redmond officials will cut the ribbon on their latest public art installation a 35-foot-tall sculpture, dubbed Thoughts of Flight, tomorrow as part of the city’s Passport to the Arts Event.

Thoughts is one of fourteen public artworks currently on display in downtown Redmond, six of those pieces, including the latest addition are on loan to the city from artists. The city plans to purchase one of those works after a public vote to select the piece.

That purchase will be funded partially through donations and fundraisers, including Saturday’s event in which residents are encouraged to purchase a $25 passport. Visitors can have their passport stamped as they visit the cities public art works where artists will be on hand to discuss their pieces. At the end of the tour, art fans can redeem their passport for a commemorative ceramic coaster.

The event begins at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting for the new sculpture and runs through 4 p.m. with entertainment and vendors in Centennial Park.

Nicely shot video from BPTA on the upcoming parks bond. Worth looking it just to see the superimposed their CGI take on the Colorado Street improvements, including safe passage for floaters, the whitewater play park and fish “estuary.”

It’s worth nothing that only the safe passage is included in the bond. The in-stream work would be funded privately by BPTA and would have to be permitted by the state.
