The Power Hour
Written by James Williams Wednesday, 21 September 2011 12:34
This week’s Microcosmos write-up is as much about arithmetic as it is about beer. Wait, don’t turn the page yet, it’s simple math and everyone (over 21 years of age, of course) can benefit from the $5 growler fills at Silver Moon Brewery. All you do is take any ole growler into the taproom from 4 to 5 p.m. on any weekday that doesn’t start with the letter “M,” plunk down five bucks and they fill your vessel with that week’s featured brew — this week it’s Snake Bite Porter or Oregon Legacy Lager.
In such dismal economic times as these, you may ask yourself, is this a good deal? Most growlers are somewhere around 64 ounces or just under two liters. Your regular-ass American beer is 12 ounces. Some casual division reveals that you can fit more than five beers into one growler. At five bucks a fill, you’re paying less than one American dollar per beer. And this is fresh, well-crafted, locally made beer. Is this a good deal? Heck yes, says arithmetic. (JW)
